GEDU has announced its acquisition of Tampa-based institution Schiller International University, marking the firm’s official expansion into the US market.

It comes just weeks after the company announced it was also taking over École de Management Appliqué in Paris.

Schiller, which has campuses in Tampa, Madrid, Paris and Heidelberg, offers courses in international relations and diplomacy, as well as business and economics and sustainability, among others.

The institution’s multi-campus structure allows students to “avail of the intercampus transfer facility to get a rich international experience”, as well as having online facilities available to them throughout their degree.

“Schiller International University has a great history of creating value through its presence on two continents across the Atlantic.

“Since we are committed to widening the access to education, having Schiller in our fold will help us extend the same international experience and global perspective to students in newer geographies,” GEDU CEO Vishwajeet Rana said upon the announcement of the purchase.

GEDU said Schiller incorporated “teamwork, research, consultation and presentation aptitudes required for today’s skilled professionals” into its courses.

GEDU’s recent acquisition of École de Management Appliqué followed a similar process, with GEDU’s deputy Ray Lloyd saying it was “delighted to welcome EMA into the GEDU family”.

“Schiller… has a great history of creating value through its presence on two continents”

The transaction amount has not been made public for either acquisition.

EMA operates in both English and French through its course offerings, describing itself as a “multidisciplinary institution”. It also offers apprenticeships along with higher education courses up to the doctoral level.

The Schiller acquisition marks the third that GEDU has made this year – in May 2023, it also acquired distance learning degree specialist MLA College, in a deal made with BAU Global Education Network.

In a statement provided to The PIE, Schiller’s president Marta Muñiz said: “This transition is not about changing who we are, but about becoming even more of what we aspire to be.”

“Our commitment to providing an outstanding educational experience and nurturing global citizens remains at the core of our mission,” she added.
