Key lawmakers from both major parties say they’d be open to the idea, describing legacy admissions — in which schools give priority to students whose family members once attended there — as fundamentally unfair.
“This landscape is shifting very quickly on legacy” admissions, said Sen. Derek Slap, D-West Hartford, who chairs the legislature’s Higher Education Committee. “I really don’t think there’s a good defense of it.”
