Dr. Joy Buolamwini, Algorithmic Justice League

Dr Joy Buolamwini“Poet of Code” Dr. Joy Buolamwini founded the Algorithmic Justice League, where she is artist-in-chief and president, to create a world with more equitable and accountable technology. She uses art and research to illuminate the social implications of artificial intelligence (AI). Previously, Buolamwini was a MAS affiliated research assistant at the MIT Media Lab. Her TED Talks feature on algorithmic bias has been viewed over 1 million times. In her research, she uncovered racial and gender bias in AI services from high profile companies such as Microsoft, IBM and Amazon. Now a sought-after international speaker, Buolamwini continues to advocate for algorithmic justice.
