As Portland State University trustees met Thursday to approve budget cuts amid projections for continued enrollment declines, dozens of students watched warily, some carrying hand made signs. “Students over profit,” one said. “We are more than a business decision,” read another, with the s’es swapped for dollar signs. During public testimony, students, adjunct instructors and faculty members protested cuts that the faculty union alleges have caused “chaos” on campus and raised concerns about a lack of communication and shared governance.
