ASA College, a for-profit institution based in New York City, has closed without an approved teach-out plan, according to its former accreditor, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. ASA College lost its accreditation, ultimately prompting its closure last week.
The MSCHE website indicates that the accreditor rejected the teach-out plan submitted by ASA “because it did not meet the criteria established in the Teach-Out Plans and Agreement(s) Policy and Procedures.” MSCHE noted numerous other issues, including a lack of communication with students about the closure and a lack of staff to assist with transfers.
ASA’s website notes it is “currently not accepting new applications for enrollment.”
The troubled for-profit college made headlines in recent years for issues such as deceptive marketing, which led to a settlement with the state of New York, and recurring sexual assault claims against owner Alex Shchegol, who was ousted as president, reinstated and then removed again.
