For the first time in nearly 50 years, the number of Black medical schools in the country is growing. The fourth and newest, an independent four-year medical program at the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) in Los Angeles, opened in early July with 60 students.

The committee consists of subject matter experts from across CSU and recognized that Black student success is linked to faculty and employee success. To hear the voices of everyone at CSU, the committee held separate listening sessions across the system for students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Perez holds an Ed.D.
