Valerie Sheares Ashby recently assumed the role of president. Passing the Leadership Torch President Sheares Ashby took office In August 2022, succeeding UMBC's beloved, long-term president Freeman Hrabowaski. I left Duke University, that I loved and still love, where I have friends, colleagues, and students.
