Image: Newly available data from the National Science Foundation suggest that the first full year of the pandemic had a major, negative impact on graduate students’ ability to finish their Ph.D.s. awarded between the 2019 and 2020 academic years. In numbers, 52,250 research doctorates were awarded across fields in 2021.
