Report: English Majors Employed at Comparable Rates, Educators Can Do More to Prepare Students for Careers

College students who graduate as English majors actually find jobs at about the same rate as those who major in other subjects, according to a recent report commissioned by the Modern Language Association (MLA). According to the report, the unemployment rate for English majors, 2.3%, was not far off from that of all college graduates, 2.17%.

OUP’s new English test to “address skills gap”

Oxford University Press has waded into the advanced English language space by launching a new online test for language learners. The Oxford Test of English Advanced for CEFR B2 to C1 learners is certified and recognised by the University of Oxford and will be available to “unlock global opportunities”.

A majority of individuals who speak English as an additional language believe having proficient language skills can lead to as much as an 80% increase in salary, according to a new survey. Over 5,000 English speakers from Japan, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Italy and the US participated in the study by Pearson, at the end of 2023.
